Sharon’s Story:
I really became interested in Hypnosis last fall. I had just gone through some major life changes – a divorce, becoming a single mom, new job and lots of stress from all areas of my life. I was trying to heal on so many levels, including healing my heart. I just didn’t seem to be moving forward as quickly as I had hoped. One of my friends suggested that I try Hypnosis. So I decided to look into it.
I became involved with Hypnosis for several reasons. In the beginning it was for my own personal situation, but the more I found out about Hypnosis and the way it works, the more interested I became. I looked at some of the situations and stress my friends were dealing with and also the situations my daughter and her friends were going through. Although these two groups are years apart in age, there were numerous similarities – stress, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, fear, unrealistic body image, etc. Having successfully dealt with some of these issues myself using Hypnosis, I wanted to do something to help them – so I became a Hypnotherapist. I want to provide people with another option for therapy – with the only requirement being that the person has a strong desire and commitment to make changes. People need to know that they are not helpless – that they have the power to make positive and lasting changes in their lives. Sometimes we just need a little guidance along the way.
To become a Certified and Registered Hypnotherapist with the National Guild of Hypnotists, I joined Mike Lalonde’s Mentoring Program. Mike is a licensed trainer with the Society of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, and a registered and certified instructor with the National Guild of Hypnotists. The course is very intensive and comprehensive. We are required to put in 100 hours of class time which does not cover all of the homework and practice time which we did daily. I completed the course feeling very confident in my skills and training.
My practice is in bedford NS. I have a room specifically designed for my Hypnosis clients. I think it has a very calming and relaxing effect on clients. The recliner is very, very comfortable!
I'm developing a program this fall with the intention of having it ready for the spring. The program is being designed for teens. The program will be about using Hypnosis to help teens with issues such as low self-esteem, lack of confidence, body image and stress management (as my teenage daughter reminded me – in her words – “Teens are under too much stress all the time”. I will be approaching the schools here in the area to let them know what services I will be offering. I currently offer hypnosis for a variety of issues such as stress management, smoking cessation, weight management, self-improvement, and more. A session usually runs between 2-3 hours.
I know Hypnosis works because of my own personal experience. People need to realize that Hypnosis can benefit almost anyone. The stronger the desire and commitment to make a change, the more effective the Hypnosis will be, and the sooner the client will reach their goal.
I think my favourite part of being a Hypnotherapist, is seeing the excitement and amazement on the faces of my clients when they realize that they are the ones that are in control, and making all these positive changes. It’s kind of funny in a way – in the beginning they look at me like I have all the answers, when in reality the answers are already inside them. I just guide them through the change process and teach them effective tools to empower them to help them achieve their goals and dreams.
“I really believe that Hypnosis works and can benefit almost anyone. So if you have a strong desire and commitment to make changes – then call me – that’s why I became a Hypnotherapist! I want to - and can help you!!”
